Books, Love & Mythological Fiction….

I’ve reading like a maniac these days. This is because all my shows namely Lucifer, Flash, Supergirl, Gotham, Arrow, Supernatural, Elementary, Scorpion and The Big Bang Theory have gone for hiatus. It’s like all the characters go on a giant group picnic together on an unknown island where no one can reach them for a few months.

Every year during this time of show hiatus I catch up on my reading list. So I am reading a lot lately. This year it is Indian mythological fiction. It has attracted me like a bee to flower, ants to sugar and Winnie the Pooh to honey.

This genre is fabulous and many Indian authors are trying their hands on the subject. We have so many juicy characters in our mythology and each of them can be written about extensively. I finished about 7 to 8 books between May end and today and I realized that My Favorite books so far in this genre are (in this order exactly)

  • Ajaya Series – Anand Neelkanthan
  • Karna’s wife – Kavita Kane
  • Sita – The Warrior of Mithila – Amish Tripathi
  • Immortals of Meluha – Amish Tripathi (read when the books were published)

Before starting with this genre, my favorite fictional characters were Mr. Darcy, Rhett Butler and Heathcliff. Now another one has been added to the list of my unrequited literary love – Karna – the greatest warrior that EVER was!!! His character sketch by Kavita Kane has totally made me fall in love with him. Since I want to read more about this fantastic demigod, I promptly bought The Palace of Illusions by Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni. This is next in line after my current read.

I have realized that although every culture is enriched with their mythological stories and characters, my favorite our Indian, Greek and Norse mythology.

My current read is
