Covid 19 Put A Wrench In My Plans To Attend My Bro’s Wedding

February 2021 started with lots of excitement… my bro was getting hitched… I was super excited to go to Delhi for the wedding and then to Kolkata for a reception. It has been the longest time that I have visited Kolkata and met my cousins and enjoyed the street food.

Mum and I prepared like any other family who would prepare for a wedding in the family. We bought sarees, footwear, accessories and in general the zeal was high. I booked us fancy flight tickets and all I could talk about was the awesomeness of the journey that it will be. I bored my friends with the grizzly details that were unnecessary to share.

We were happy and excited.

Someone ate a bat soup and we are still facing the brunt of it

March crept in and along with it the proverbial 2nd wave of the pandemic, AND the wave hit home this time. First victim was the husband, who started feeling uneasy the moment he got his first vaccine; the 2nd victim was my MIL… we got her tested first and BAM came the slap… she was positive.

Eventually I started feeling feverish and had a serious itch in the throat that I could not scratch. I got tested and found out that I was affected too.

The power of positivity is strong in the family and it was spreading like a wildfire. Eventually, the remaining three members of the Chakravarty Maitra clan got tested and it seemed our positivity knew no bounds.

Would you believe it if I said that all the happy music in my head turned into sad tear-jerking music and my heart felt heavy. I was so sad that I wanted to sleep all the time. Or it may be the illness too… one would never know.

Being “Bad news Brian”

It was almost physically painful to break it to the relatives that both Mum and I have contacted the C-virus and would not attend the wedding. Super restrictions were imposed…. the dreaded 14 days home quarantine!!!!!

Throwback to the times when we could go out for weekend walkies…

Admittedly, we are all ill and are going through tough times, but my heart breaks for my dogs; the restrictions are imposed on them too. Thankfully I have great pals who stay in the building and have volunteered to take them out for their walkies, but they look so sad all the time. I guess our illnesses are affecting them mentally.

Although I am upset that I could not go to the wedding, I must add that we have fabulous doctors, who are guiding us through the home quarantine dexterously. We are all at different levels of recovery now and I would finish my 14 days of quarantine soonish.

The Power Of Technology

We did get to enjoy the wedding through the miracle of technology called conference calling. Although it wasn’t as awesome as actually being there, however, we did the next best thing – video conference!!!

The Happy Couple

We are at various stages of recovery now. I am watching a lot of movies during this time, albeit, one movie is taking about 2 to 3 days to finish as I am getting too tired to watch the entire movie at one go and inadvertently dozing off to sleep. A bunch of movie reviews coming soon… Meanwhile, check out my other writeups about movie/book reviews here
